Vatican Museums and Colosseo: online tickets to skip the line in 2026

I’m Paola, host in Prati. My guests’ number one mistake? Arriving in Rome without having booked tickets for the Musei Vaticani and the Colosseo. The result: hours of queuing in the sun. Just 10 minutes online is enough to avoid it. Here’s where to book, how much it costs and how to get in stress-free.

Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel

They’re among the most visited museums in the world: without a booking the average queue in high season is 2–4 hours. The only official site is museivaticani.va (beware of third-party resellers).

2026 prices: adults €20 + €4 online booking fee; reduced 7–18 years €8 + €4; free under 6. The last Sunday of the month is free, but with enormous queues.

How to book: on museivaticani.va choose a date and time (slots every 15 minutes), pay and receive the QR code by email. Show up 15 minutes early at the bookings entrance. The Sistine Chapel is at the end of the route: allow at least 45 minutes of walking. Don’t miss the Raphael Rooms and the Pinacoteca.

Colosseo, Roman Forum and Palatine

A single ticket for the three sites, on coopculture.it. 2026 prices: adults €18, reduced 18–25 years EU €2, free under 18; online booking +€2 (effectively compulsory in high season). Extras: arena +€3, upper levels +€6.

The Colosseo opens at 9:00 and closes one hour before sunset (16:30 in winter, until 19:15 in July–August). The first Sunday of the month is free, but the queues reach 2–3 hours: if you’re not tied to it, avoid it.

The other museums to book

• Musei Capitolini (museicapitolini.org): adults €15, less crowded, with a view of the Forum and a panoramic terrace.
• Galleria Borghese (tosc.it): €15 + €2, with limited entry — it’s the one to book furthest in advance of all. Bernini, Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael.

Remember: St. Peter’s is free (dome €8–10), the Pantheon costs €5.

Why location matters

From the Prati district the Musei Vaticani are a 15-minute walk: no transport needed for the most visited site. The Colosseo and Galleria Borghese are 20–30 minutes by metro.
